An accident which occurred earlier on Thursday noon (today) at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Campus gate, had claimed the life of a final year French student of the Foreign Language department , Faculty of Arts of the institution (name withheld pending family notification).
Eyewitness accounts stated that Rita was going to Campus to submit her final year project when the tragic incident occurred.
The car involved in the accident
According to the eyewitness, the vehicle, whose driver’s identity has not been disclosed, was said to have hit the student with immense force, resulting in the sudden loss of her life.
An eyewitness, Emmanuel, noted that the incident occurred a few minutes before they got to the campus gate. He stated that ‘the girl wanted to cross the road; she was by the roadside when those guys came to hit her. One of the guys who hit her has been beaten mercilessly and manhandled by a mob.’
The incident has sent shockwaves through the university, leaving students and faculty members expressing their condolences and outrage over the tragic loss. The university authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
As the investigation into the incident continues, the University community is presently mourning and making efforts to contact her parent.
