Gospel Legend Solly Moholo Passes Away

The South African gospel music industry is mourning the loss of a beloved icon. Solly Moholo, known for his distinctive voice and hit songs, passed away after a long battle with illness. His team confirmed the sad news on the evening of Wednesday, 2 October, announcing his death to fans and the public.

Moholo, famous for his gospel hits like *Ke Latlhile Bokinza* and *Robala ka Khotso*, had been hospitalized following a pre-album launch tour in Botswana. His health took a turn for the worse, and despite efforts to save him, he tragically lost his life. His team released a statement expressing their sorrow and informing the public of the family’s need for privacy during this difficult time.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Solly Moholo,” the statement read. “He was a legend in the gospel music world and will be deeply missed. His laughter and joyful spirit will continue to echo through the walls of heaven. Let us remember him for the healing and uplifting music he provided over the years.”

### An Industry in Mourning

The news of Moholo’s passing has sent shockwaves through the music industry, especially within the gospel community. Limpopo Artists Movement (LAM) Provincial Chairperson, Mphoza Mashabela, spoke on the profound loss, highlighting Moholo’s influence on the industry.

“We have lost a great pillar of gospel music. We previously lost legends like Oleseng Shuping and Kenny Makweng, and now Solly Moholo. His absence will leave a huge gap, especially in the sione music genre. He was more than just an artist; he was a mentor to many,” said Mashabela.

Mashabela went on to explain that the Limpopo community had supported Moholo from the very beginning of his career, and he was regarded as a local hero. “We even tried to raise funds to assist with his medical bills, but unfortunately, it was too late. Only God knows who will continue his legacy.”

Moholo was not just known for his music, but also for his role as a producer. He helped launch the careers of several prominent artists, including gospel singer Winnie Mashaba, cementing his status as a significant figure in South African gospel music.

Many took to social media to express their condolences and share memories of the joy his music brought to their lives.
